New U2 Album Due In Spring 2014

U2 expect to release a new album in April 2014, Billboard reports.

The album is produced by Danger Mouse (Brian Burton), and recording took place for the most part at New York’s Electric Lady Studios, according to Billboard and other reports.

U2’s previous album was 2009’s No Line on the Horizon, the band’s seventh #1 on “The Billboard 200,” where it debuted at #1.

U2 is looking for “brand partners,” according to Billboard, so the band can advertise the album in a Super Bowl commercial.

U2’s first new song in three years, “Ordinary Love,” is heard in the Nelson Mandela film, “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.” The film is set for release in late November. You can listen to the song right now. Just use this link to launch a Facebook page with a video player and listen.

The group is working on a new album which they hope to release in 2014.

“It’s a bit of a return to U2 of old,” Adam Clayton said in a recent Irish radio interview, “but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last 10 years.”

From what I can hear, this soundtrack contribution is a classic U2 ballad that builds and builds, turning into an anthem by the end. Maybe. Check it out yourself in the “Mandela” trailer below.

New Album On The Way From U2

U2

U2’s Adam Clayton said during an interview on the Ireland’s  Dermot & Dave radio show that the group is nearly finished with a new album, their first since 2009.

“I think it’s a return to U2 of old, but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last ten years,” Clayton said. “It’s a very interesting hybrid.”

Clayton said the band is in the studio “trying to get these 12 songs right,” hoping to complete the album before Christmas for a 2014 release.
