Audio: Bob Dylan’s Rare Mono ‘Rocks And Gravel’ – Freewheelin’ Sessions Rock Version – 1962

T”Rocks And Gravel” is an interesting recording that Bob Dylan made for The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.

It was originally included on the album along three other songs which were all replaced.

What’s interesting is that the year is 1962 and yet Dylan is accompanied by drums, piano, bass and lead guitar.

Audio: ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’ Released 51 Years Ago – May 27, 1963 – ‘Masters of War,’ ‘(I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle’ & More

Fifty-one years ago, on May 27, 1963, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, an album that Dylan had worked on, on and off, for over a year, was released.

The recording of the album began on April 24, 1962 and ended on April 24, 1963. There were sessions on eight different days at Columbia Studio A in New York. At least 36 songs were recorded.

Thirteen songs made it onto the album.

Here are some of the outtakes that I like along with some faves from the official release:

Audio: Session #2, Bob Dylan Records ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’ 52 Years Ago – ‘Solid Road,’ ‘Milk Cow Blues,’ ‘Sally Gal’ & More

Outtake from session for album cover.

Fifty-two years ago, on April 25, 1962, the second session for The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan took place at Columbia Studio A in New York.

That day, according to Clinton Heylin’s “Bob Dylan: The Recording Sessions [1960 – 1994]” the following songs were recorded.

(It’s possible that some of these were cut at a different session since Dylan rerecorded some songs on different days.)

The other day I posted some outtakes and alternate takes from The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, which Dylan spent a year, off an on, writing and recording. He completed the album on April 24, 1963.

Man I just can’t get enough of these early ’60s Dylan recordings. His voice is amazing and each performance is it’s own unique thing — we’re so lucky to get to hear these songs.

I know some of you have had them for years, but even so, every time I listen I hear something I didn’t hear before.

So here are more of the songs and versions that didn’t make the official album.
